Story A Day: Day Seventeen

Catching up on my Story  A Day posts today! This is from the prompt on the 17th about using a story from the headlines. This wasn’t a headline per se, but it came from this story (which I found via The Toast’s Link Roundup).

I’m not sure if I’m completely happy with the way this piece went. It’s not exactly what I was aiming for. I couldn’t quite get the tone I was after right.

Wanted: New Home

I know this probably makes me sound like a terrible person, but there you go. You don’t know me and you don’t know my life.

I am looking for a new home for my darling Pewter. Say what you will, but I was not entirely ignorant going into this. I did do my research before welcoming her into my home, but the time has come to admit that I am not entirely up to the task.

She needs more time and, if I am honest, more affection than I can muster.

She is a darling, but she is also a lot of work and I am not really the kind of person that can manage that. I barely get coffee into myself and out the door in the morning. LOL

Again, you probably think me an awful person as a result. But I am trying to be honest, with myself and with you, Pewter’s new adoptive parent.

She is a sweetheart and deserves better.

I don’t know what else to say. She is loving and affectionate, perhaps a little more than people might expect, but she likes to sit and watch television in the evening. She will eat virtually anything, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

You do need to watch her around visitors. That’s a bit tiresome.

And you can’t let her out. Your neighbours will not be happy. (Ask how I know.)

Anyway.

I’m attaching a picture.

I’m hoping to get her out of here sooner rather than later, so don’t delay!

Cheers,
Pewter’s mom
